Health Imperatives Announces New CEO

Health and human services nonprofit Health Imperatives named STEPHANIE BROWN as the organization's new CEO. Brown formerly served as CEO of Casa Myrna, an anti-domestic violence nonprofit in Boston. During her 13 years there, the organization's budget grew from $3 million to $11 million and expanded services to over 2,200 survivors annually. She also serves on the board of the Boston Area Rape Crisis Center, according to her LinkedIn. Brown spent six years at the Department of Transitional Assistance, overseeing SNAP allocations and the department's housing and homeless resources. In 2025, the Trump administration withdrew Medicaid funding for Health Imperatives and private donors organized to fund the nonprofit, including a $2.5 million grant from Action for Women's Health, a philanthropic agency associated with Melinda French Gates. Health Imperatives serves southeastern Massachusetts and the Cape and Islands' low-income populations, focusing on sexual and reproductive healthcare, young family health, support for survivors of violence, and WIC nutritional assistance. The nonprofit says they serve 24,000 individuals annually regardless of insurance status or ability to pay.
